The Green Revolution
By Adam Amare

I believe that the green revolution was truly revolutionary because it helps people around the world gain the ability to grow lots of food using natural plants. The main ideas of the green revolution are, irrigation and fertilization, producing plants with more yields that don’t fall over when they become to big and to stop famine and feed more people.
During the 1960’s and 70’s there were major advances in irrigation and fertilizer. Some of the problems before was that people were completely dependent on weather to water there crops and if the rainy season came just a little late there crops would die and they would starve. How ever thanks to the green revolution they were able to get water all year around. What they did was that they mined water from the ground and used it to make irrigation canals to water their plants. Thanks to this they were able to produce more plants to feed the people in their area and for selling to make money for themselves. However there was another problem sometimes the fields weren’t as full of nutrients for the plants to use as they should be this made farmers ability to grow food very limited. Using fertilizer was the best solution for this however when you used fertilizer the wind would carry it to the water where it would mix and make the water poisons causing crops to die. Because of the green revolution special nitrogen pills were made these little tablets are meant to be stuck into the ground with the seed where they will give it nutrients and this worked better than the spray fertilizer because they stayed only in the place you wanted them to and were a great source of nitrogen which was food for plants.
Even with these great means of farming technology there was still the problem of the plants getting to big and falling over. This was a huge problem because if this happens then the farmer would lose valuable crop yield with could have been used to feed people of make money. The solution to this problem again comes from the green revolution thanks to a little thing call a dwarf plant. This was a kind of wheat that always grew to a curtain height and never grew higher than that. By mixing the common wheat and rice plant with this dwarf plant they were able to make the plants grow to a curtain height and grow more yield by doing this they were able to increase there ability to make food.
From the time the green revolution started in the 1940’s food has been available to every single country in the world even when the whether isn’t exactly on your side. Because of this people with very little were able to by and eat food that wasn’t attainable to them before we were able to get more wheat and rice to south Asia where it is a very important food group.
Thanks to the green revolution we were able to better sustain our selves and improve our ability to cultivate food and keep the people of the worlds bellies full. The green revolution has made the life of a farmer easier and more profitable by letting them gain more yields from plants and has made the life of the less fortunate more livable. All in all the green revolution as changed the lives of many people around the world and it still is.
